What Does Tanglaw Mean?![]()
Tanglaw means light — and light, in the Filipino home, has always been more than illumination. It marks the table where the family gathers, the window left glowing for someone still on their way home. This collection takes that idea and gives it a body: five lamps, each crowned by a woven salakot and lit by a soft orb beneath the brim, each one wearing a different chapter of Filipino identity. They are the same in silhouette and different in story — a family, standing together.
Who is the Maria Clara?
Named for the heroine of Rizal's Noli Me Tangere, the baro't saya became the enduring image of the idealized colonial-era Filipina—devout, gentle, and woven into a story of a country learning to speak in its own voice. The Maria Clara lamp holds that tenderness in the embroidered pañuelo folded across its shoulders and gathered at a rose, a sampaguita tucked into the brim. It honors the novels that first taught so many of us what our own history looked like.
